The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Simpson Manufacturing Co is viewed positively because 1Q results materially outpaced expectations, with sales of $588 million, EPS of $2.13, and EBITDA of $139 million, driven by a surprising rebound in North America volumes and resilient pricing/mix. Its entrenched position in wood connectors, market-share gains across fasteners, truss plates, and anchors, and continued customer conversion in component manufacturing support the case for sustained above-market growth even amid softer housing trends. Strong cash generation, $50 million of share repurchases in 1Q, and expected margin expansion from cost savings and capacity optimization reinforce the outlook for improving shareholder returns and rising profitability.

Bear case

Simpson Manufacturing Co is facing a fundamentally cautious backdrop because its core connector and venting businesses are highly exposed to housing, and management now expects U.S. housing starts to be down low-single-digits in 2026 versus flat previously. Although the company still guides for full-year operating margins of 19.5%-20.5% and a $70M carryover pricing benefit in 2026 versus $40M previously, that offset depends on pricing holding in a softer demand environment. Ongoing risks from cyclical end markets, steel and stainless steel cost volatility, tariff and supply-chain shocks, and integration costs from acquisitions could pressure volumes, profitability, and execution.
