The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Shattuck Labs is attractive because SL-325 has a differentiated, selective DR3-targeting mechanism that is now being validated by Merck’s positive TL1A data in HS, while Shattuck’s own Phase 1 showed only a 3.7% ADA rate versus 48%-100% for anti-TL1A antibodies, supporting a stronger durability and safety profile. Management is broadening the program into multiple value-driving indications, with the Phase 2 RECEPTIVE-CD1 Crohn’s study on track to initiate in 3Q26 and the HS study planned later this year, which could materially expand the addressable market beyond IBD. Financially, existing cash is expected to fund operations into 2029, and the stock appears undervalued relative to the platform’s risk-adjusted potential, including quarterly maintenance dosing and a growing pipeline from SL-846.

Bear case

Shattuck Labs is a high-risk biotechnology name whose value is heavily dependent on SL-325 and related pipeline assets, yet those programs remain unproven and could fail on efficacy, immunogenicity, safety, or regulatory grounds. The company also faces intense competition in TL1A and inflammatory bowel disease, while manufacturing and commercialization hurdles could further limit uptake even if development succeeds. Financially, it is not expected to be profitable for several years and may need additional capital to fund lengthy clinical development, creating dilution and financing risk if market conditions are unfavorable.
