The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

VF is supported by improving brand momentum across key labels, with The North Face posting 16% constant-currency revenue growth in 4Q and Altra surging 45% YoY to over $270mm in sales in FY26. Vans appears to be nearing a durable reset after years of right-sizing, as search interest, web traffic, and credit card data all improved materially, while management sees revenue growth in FY27 and Timberland also expected to rise in FY27. The balance sheet is strengthening as net debt fell to $2.7B, about half its peak of $6B in F'24, and further efficiency gains or wholesale channel improvement could lift earnings from the raised FY27 EPS estimate of $1.10.

Bear case

VF is facing a difficult turnaround because Vans, its most important growth engine, still shows soft underlying demand, with 4Q revenue down 5% CC despite a pull-forward of wholesale orders and only modest improvement expected through FY27. The weakness appears structural rather than promotional, as products like Pearlized and Old Skool may resonate with core fans but have not yet proven scalable, while wholesale partners remain hesitant and 2- and 3-year stacked growth trends are still pressured. At the same time, The North Face and Timberland momentum has stalled, revenue is expected to be roughly flat in F'26 and decline LSD%+ in F'27, and elevated net leverage leaves less room for error if macro conditions and consumer spending worsen.
