The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Wolverine World Wide is benefiting from a powerful mix shift toward its most profitable and fastest-growing brands, with Merrell up 10.3% and Saucony up 9.0% in the quarter and together contributing roughly two-thirds of revenue. This momentum, plus improving trends at Wolverine and Sweaty Betty, helped lift Q2 revenue 6% above guidance and EPS of $0.40 above the $0.35-$0.38 range, while FY26 revenue guidance was raised to $1,980mn-$2,000mn and adjusted EBIT margin is approaching 9.9%. With $2bn revenue and a 10% EBIT margin now within reach, net leverage expected below 2x, and favorable brand execution in Europe and other regions, the company appears positioned for structurally stronger earnings growth and greater valuation support.

Bear case

Wolverine World Wide is facing a negative fundamental setup because its key brands are exposed to fashion risk, weak conversion in domestic and European markets, and persistent cost and currency pressures that could limit both growth and profitability. The U.S. reset continues to weigh on Sweaty Betty, which declined 3% in Q2 and is expected to remain in the down LSD range through the rest of the year, signaling that the turnaround remains incomplete. On top of that, slowing momentum in Saucony and Merrell, plus rising promotional pressure, could leave total company growth flattish and pressure margins further, with FY27 EPS potentially approaching $1.40.
