The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

EPAM Systems is supported by durable engineering capabilities, a diversified global delivery model, and a leading North American franchise that still represents roughly 60% of revenue, giving it a strong base for long-term demand despite current execution issues. The company’s 2Q26 results beat on revenue and margin, and management raised its CY26 adjusted operating margin outlook to 15.5–16% after delivering 16.4% operating margin, helped by cost discipline, improved pricing, and pyramid optimization. While CY26 revenue growth guidance was cut to +2% to +3% y/y cc amid softer North American buying patterns and AI-related budget shifts, its c.7x revised CY27E EPS valuation leaves risk/reward looking favorable for investors willing to wait for execution to normalize.

Bear case

EPAM Systems is facing a negative outlook because its reported 1Q26 revenue growth of 7.6% was flattered by FX, while organic constant-currency growth of 3.7% lagged the broader market and North America, its largest region at about 57% of revenue, rose only 2.5% as clients delayed discretionary spending. Management cut FY26 revenue guidance on macro deterioration, and the company’s AI-native, vendor-consolidation, and fixed-price initiatives remain uncertain, with roughly 10 large deals and about $600M of AI-native FY26 revenue still requiring execution that is not yet visible in guidance. The thesis is further weakened by structural risks including pricing pressure, AI-driven cannibalization of billable hours, margin drag from a North American go-to-market overhaul, and continued exposure to geopolitics, all of which limit confidence in a durable re-acceleration.
