The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

HIVE Digital Technologies is showing a strong fundamental transition from a Bitcoin-heavy miner into a higher-quality AI/HPC infrastructure platform, backed by $180M in contracted GPU cloud ARR, including a $350M five-year hyperscaler deal and a $225M sovereign AI agreement with Cohere. Despite a revenue miss of $79M, adjusted EBITDA beat expectations at $13.4M and gross margin improved to 30.6%, while mining margin expanded 500 bps, showing that operational efficiency is helping fund growth through a difficult crypto backdrop. The thesis is further supported by renewable-powered assets in Canada, Sweden, and Paraguay, plus a more institutional financing profile with $245M raised and additional capital aimed at scaling capacity and monetizing enterprise demand.

Bear case

HIVE Digital Technologies is exposed to a weak fundamental mix because most of its top-line still comes from Bitcoin mining, leaving revenue, profitability, and its Bitcoin treasury highly sensitive to spot price swings and rising network hash rate. While mining revenue of $72.1M rose 76.6% year-over-year, it still missed consensus by 7.0% and was pressured by a 27.1% drop in the average BTC price to $71,682, underscoring how fragile earnings remain despite higher coin production. The company’s shift toward GPU cloud services and colocation adds execution and funding risk because those businesses are capital intensive, and the recent $208.0M cash balance was supported by exchangeable notes, ATM issuance, and a large $84.7M contested VAT provision that further clouds financial flexibility.
