The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Okta is supported by a durable identity-security thesis, as AI is increasing the strategic importance of identity while its incumbency, large installed base, and neutral platform position create a strong cross-sell path into IGA, PAM, ITDR, and agentic identity. Recent operating evidence reinforces that view, including cRPO of $2.59B, up 14% year over year, revenue growth of 11% to $805M, and strong margins, which together signal healthy enterprise demand, improving sales productivity, and successful platform expansion. Management’s push around Okta for AI Agents, Auth0 innovation, and open standards also suggests early traction that could widen wallet share and sustain growth re-acceleration over time.

Bear case

Okta is exposed to several fundamental headwinds that weaken the investment case, led by the complex integration of Auth0, which could disrupt products and customer workflows while leaving two standalone CIAM solutions in place. Its growth is also vulnerable to a general contraction in information technology budgets, since CIAM tooling may be viewed as non-core spend, and expansion into Privileged Access Management faces heavy competition from CyberArk, BeyondTrust, ThycoticCentrify, and larger platform players. In addition, seat count pressures in workforce identity, rising pricing competition in a consolidating identity-security market, and the risk of delayed new-product releases could accelerate revenue deceleration despite management’s AI and identity-security narrative.
